The Energy Goup
The Parish Plan (action 14) indicated a strong level of support for some form of community based sustainable energy scheme. So 2007 saw the inaugural meeting of the Sustainable Energy action group. A number of keen volunteers met to share their vision for a low energy community and to explore how this might be achieved. We had a real mix of talents, including a project manager, an electrical engineer, an accountant and a town planner and for our first task we set about defining our mission.
After much discussion we settled on the following:
Our long-term aim is to reduce the impact on the environment of energy use in the parish of Hawkesbury.
To achieve this we believe we need to act on two levels:
to help people save energy, and
to develop a major sustainable resource project.
We have a particular project in mind that will allow us to trial and demonstrate a number of options for reducing energy consumption and using alternative heat and power sources. However, we are keen to hear from anyone who might be interested in developing their own small sustainable energy project and using it as a showcase. We may be able to help with getting advice and support from public bodies and would be keen to work with you to get the project going.
We will publicise more news about our progress and plans over the next few months, but in the meantime if you want to get involved in any way or have any knowledge or services to offer, please come along to our next meeting or contact one of the following:
